Madame Butterfly Brief Version

Let's go to the opera!

Madam Butterfly (in Italian Madama Butterfly) is one of opera’s most enduring tales of unrequited love. Puccini’s poignant score follows the tragic tale of Cio Cio San, a young Japanese girl who falls in love with American naval officer Pinkerton, with devastating consequences.

What makes it such a powerful opera?

Music is one of the most natural and familiar experiences to our ears. An unborn infant in the womb may feel the vibration from a mother’s voice as she sings. One may listen to music to settle into a particular mood. Music may excite us or music may relax us.

Music has taken me from one side of the world to the other and back again. Allow me to share these experiences with you in a variety of ways to realize the music within you.

Music may be as simple as a bird song. Alternatively, music may be as complex as a symphony orchestra on stage or a favourite rock band in the fan-packed room of a loud basement club. Our basic instinct is the beating of our heart. Rhythm comes naturally to us all. Breathe in. Breathe out.

Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out . . . Robert Collier
